So, I know it's been a while since our last post, but so much has happened! Let's take a hot minute to update.
1. Friendship Games
-Saw some familiar faces at the Cal, UCSD, and UCLA tents! Holler at Cal for taking 3rd place! KP UCSB definitely represented and took 5th place. Cal Poly SLO took SPUF (8-0-5, 8-0-5!), and I can smell victory next year...I CAN SMELL IT!!
2. Bring the Change
-In collaboration with Anakbayan LA and Filipino college students across the state, KP UCSB's Political Chair (Jakriza Cabrera) has implemented the new BRING THE CHANGE campaign. We will be collecting change (pennies, nickels, quarters, anything!) to raise funds for humanitarian relief efforts in Mindanao, Philippines. Look out for the campaign throughout the year!
3. FRESH mentors and mentees NEEDED!
-If you're interested in gaining valuable life skills in leadership development, political and social consciousness, and retention of Filipin@ students, PLEASE APPLY!! Here is a list of criteria:
FRESH Mentors:
-2nd years or older
-interest in mentoring first years and transfers
-interest in building a sustainable Filipin@ movement at UCSB
-desire in raising our number of P-Grad participants
-interest in leadership development, political and social consciousness, and one-on-one peer counseling
-your purpose is to instill fundamental values of political, cultural, and academic retention of Filipin@ students!
FRESH Mentees:
-Anyone, regardless of year/class standing!
-interest in building your consciousness of political, cultural issues in the Fil-Am community
-interest in building a sustainable Filipin@ movement at UCSB
-desire in gaining leadership development and opportunities to learn and grow as a scholar and activist
-interest in getting plugged into the UCSB and Fil-Am community: knowing people and resources
-interest in academic counseling, as well as one-on-one peer counseling
-your purpose is learn, grow, empower, and have fun!
